What is a menu?
menu is a food delivery service that allows users to order food from restaurants, groceries, and daily necessities through a smartphone app. While Uber Eats is a service originating in the United States, menu is a service originating in Japan.
In addition to offering great coupons and benefits for Ponta Pass members, menu also features a wide range of promotional campaigns, including tie-ups with Ramen Walker magazine.
Advantages
Advantage 1: Discount code worth a total of 6,800 yen for the first order
menu is currently running a promotion offering a total discount of 6,800 yen on the first order. This is the highest coupon discount offered by any food delivery service operating in Japan. This is arguably the biggest advantage of using menu.
For information on how to receive first-order coupons totaling 6,800 yen, please refer to the article below.
Advantage 2: Linked with KDDI
menu is a consolidated subsidiary of KDDI, and primarily offers various benefits to Ponta Pass members (formerly “au Smart Pass Premium”). These include free delivery on menu, ordering/paying via the au PAY app, and using/earning Ponta points.
Even if you’re not an au phone user, you can still subscribe to Ponta Pass for 548 yen/month (including tax), so it’s worth considering.
Advantage 3: Abundant campaigns ~ Deli Noodle Project ~
In collaboration with “Ramen Walker,” one of Japan’s largest ramen media channels, menu is launching a “Deli Noodle Project,” aiming to make home delivery of ramen a part of everyday life. From popular ramen restaurants with ratings of 3.5 or higher on Tabelog, excellent ramen portions optimized for delivery will be offered.
Starting in April 2025, five new ramen restaurants – “Izouhachi Miso Ramen,” “Shina Soba Tanaka,” “Hakata Ramen Debuchan,” “Miso Mendokoro Hanadoan,” and “MEN Cry” – will be available for order through menu. The ability to enjoy popular ramen from these usually busy restaurants without having to wait in line is a very appealing feature.
Disadvantages
Disadvantage 1: The number of affiliated stores is still limited
Compared to its biggest competitor, Uber Eats, menu has fewer participating restaurants, and some areas are outside its service area. By 2025, Uber Eats has over 120,000 partner restaurants, while menu has over 90,000.
Therefore, it’s possible that the restaurant you used to use on Uber Eats may not be available on menu. It’s a good idea to check in advance whether the restaurant you want to use is a member of menu.
Disadvantage 2: Delivery fees are required
In addition to the price of the dish itself, a delivery fee will be charged depending on the distance from the store to your home. The basic fare is 300 yen for distances under 1 km, and an additional 50 yen is added for every 0.5 km thereafter.
However, Ponta Pass members can enjoy the benefit of free delivery, no matter how many times they order. Therefore, if you plan to use menu, we also recommend subscribing to Ponta Pass.
Summary
menu offers many attractive benefits, including coupons totaling 6,800 yen for first-order and perks for Ponta members (such as free delivery). They also run unique campaigns, such as the Deli Noodle Project, which are typical of a Japanese food delivery service.
